Landscaping ideas

Between the pool, the canal-side retaining walls, the possibility of an outdoor spa/sauna in the future, the Western sun dilemma and wanting a private road-side yard, the landscaping ideas were all getting a little complicated.  On top of that, our favoured house plan has a rather harsh facade.  You’ve all been terribly polite about it, but well, it needs some clever landscaping to soften its cubic shape.  So I’m soon to meet with a landscape architect to enlist his help with the landscape design.  It may seem a little early, but the pool is best put in before the house, and we will ask the builder to provide a quote for some of the hard landscaping, such as the front fence and pool.

For our meeting the landscape architect requests site plans, house plans and some pictures that best show what we envision for our outdoors.  I thought I’d share some of those pictures with you here:

Top 5 things I love for outside:

  1. Decking.
  2. Mixed materials: stone, wood, metal.
  3. Plenty of green.
  4. Space for BBQ dining.
  5. Lots of different places to sit, for all kinds of weather and mood.
I'd love a built in bench seat beside the canal, for close-up viewing of the dolpins.

Floating steps. I love the asymmetry of these, and the concrete beside the wood. Design by: http://www.landart.com.au/curl-curl/
